Long ago, our ancestors settled in a small town. That is how the early name of Kluang (Keluang) came to be, meaning Bat. With the passing of time, our habitat shrunk and food became scarce, impelling us to explore beyond for food. Meanwhile, the remaining young and old bats untiring maintain and protect our hometown, waiting for their family kin to return from foraging.

“Kelu” is a exemplar of the Kluang spirit. Though most youngsters of Kluang pursue better work competence in other towns, their hearts are still where their home is… with warm reunions during festive traditions. Kelu not only demonstrates the life of Kluang residents but also their love for this city, stirred from the Bat DNA in our blood.

The story behind:

Kelu the bat is actually a character that symbolize the resident of my home town Kluang.

There is a tale that “Kluang” came from the Malay word “Keluang” means a kind of huge bat, once upon of time there are a lots of huge bats living in this place therefore the residents name the place Keluang which mean bat.

The idea of the Kelu began with a forum that we set up for our high school call Bat DNA which mean Bat town’s Design & Art also to describe artist or designer like us who stay awake at night with the bat’s DNA in our blood.

We were thinking to have a mascot that can represent the forum so then the mascot was created.

Kelu was once the ambassador of Chong Hwa High School Kluang 90 anniversary celebration. We design the special out fit for kelu with the log of the 90 anniversary celebration.

These are the free pocket calendars launched at year 2007 each design sponsored by a shop or company, they are the calendar of year 2008. The school authorised to use the 90s Kelu Bat on some other gifts.
